Herc Man's Home

AKA Al Williams

My GCIA Practical

Who is Herc Man?

You may be thinking that this is a reference to my size or Kevin Sorbo like looks. I wish! Actually this is a name from my past when I worked as an airframe technician for ten years on the C-130 Hercules . I became very fond of the old plane and miss her since I changed careers. She reminds me of that aunt that shows up at Christmas that smelled 'old', drooled on you, and pinched your cheeks till they hurt. Honestly, I really do miss her!

I started out in the computer security field after spending time serving in both the army and air force. I now work for the Network Operations Centre for a large government organization where I am employed in the Incident Response Team as an Intrusion Detection Analyst. I have been doing this for the past two years now and find it both challenging and rewarding. I am lucky enough to work with a group that supports my continued learning and training and who are a great bunch of guys and gals. Because of their support I was able to become a GIAC Certified Intrusion Analyst (GCIA) in early 2003 and am currently working towards the Information Systems Security certificate at Algonquin College.

Hopefully you will be able to use some of the links, and tools that I have provided here. I use them all on a regular basis at work and I only ask that any use of the items listed here be for legitimate security puposes.
